Last month the two formed a Bitcoin fund focused on developing the cryptocurrency’s adoption, initially in Africa and India. Jay-Z and Dorsey have become chummy over the years, and last summer were seen together aboard a yacht in the Hamptons. “I knew Tidal was something special as soon as I experienced it, and it will continue to be the best home for music, musicians and culture.” “New ideas are found at intersections, and we believe there’s a compelling one between music and the economy,” Dorsey said in a statement. He added that he and Dorsey “have had many discussions about Tidal’s endless possibilities that have made me even more inspired about its future.”Īccording to Dorsey, who is CEO of both Square and Twitter, the deal “comes down to one simple idea: finding new ways for artists to support their work.” ![]() Artists deserve better tools to assist them in their creative journey.” Jay-Z tweeted about the pact Thursday, “I said from the beginning that Tidal was about more than just streaming music, and six years later, it has remained a platform that supports artists at every point in their careers. One of Tidal’s differentiators has been its high-fidelity audio offering Spotify plans to launch its own hi-fi tier later in 2021. Tidal, which hasn’t disclosed subscriber numbers, has managed to hang on in the streaming game amid competition from huge rivals like Apple Music and Spotify. Other Tidal artist-owners include Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Kanye West, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Pair Dorsey and Jay-Z, and maybe it comes a whole lot sooner. In 2015, Jay-Z led a consortium of artists in a $56 million deal to acquire Norwegian streaming company Aspiro. All of a sudden, you're along for the ride, too.”ģLAU predicts something along those lines will come in “the next five to 10 years. “Maybe you find an artist you love before anyone else, and you can invest in their music”-as an NFT could allow someone to do-“and then you've invested in The Weeknd before The Weeknd blows up. Why buy an NFT? “Imagine you're a fan, and you want to invest in music,” explains 3LAU. Maybe he sticks to sheparding other artists toward the technology. He sold off a variety of different types of NFTs, some of which included access to new songs and digital copies of his 2017 Ultraviolet album.Ī musician’s NFT can do any number of things: sell an album, drop a single or strike a more complicated bargain-perhaps selling off a cut of future earnings for the immediate investment. And three days prior, the electronic dance music star 3LAU finished a $11.7 million NFT auction, the biggest sale of the tokens yet. Financial services company Square ( SQ 0.90) announced on March 4 that it had acquired a majority. (And it is undeniably a boom: Nearly $50 million of these NFTs are trading hands each week, some $180 million in the past two months.) A day ago, the band Kings of Leon announced they planned to release a new album through an NFT sale, something no other artist has done. The under-performing music streaming service headed up by Jay-Z is joining the fintech giant. Musicians are at the forefront of the boom. They can do it without giving up a lick to an agent, a lawyer or a record label. These tokens allow them to sell digital media-maybe an illustration, maybe an entire album-at prices never before possible and collect a cut of secondary sales too. To them, NFTs are manna from a coded heaven. ![]() If only there was a way to do that using a sophisticated financial technology, precisely the type Dorsey and Jay-Z might find particularly interesting.Īnd this is how the world could end up with Jay-Z NFTs.Īn NFT, or a non-fungible token, is a surging type of cryptoasset attracting all sorts of artists. ![]() Having said this, users have the option of getting the pro software if they want it!ĭownloadable via the App Store, anyone from more advanced beginners looking to move beyond GarageBand, to professional studio producers can make use of Logic Pro X. But most people woke up on Sunday-just like they woke up on Tuesday-to see the disappointing result posted by an empire in decline. ![]() There are, of course, swaths of soccer obsessives who stayed up for each and every kickoff. It’s a bit tragic, and perhaps fitting, that this complete debacle happened under the cover of darkness in the US. Similar to souvenirs, memorabilia (Latin for memorable (things). When asked about her reaction to her blunder-which caused her to laugh in disbelief-Rapinoe put it as only she could.Ĭircumstances outside their control also made this World Cup feel a bit off in the US. Rapinoe is retiring, meaning her final moment in the USA jersey is a cruel mishap from the penalty spot. ![]() It’s also impossible to avoid the fact that this is a true end of an era. When a team as inevitable as the USWNT had been for the last eight years loses, it’s not just the story, it’s the only story. So too did Sophia Smith, the 22-year-old who was expected to help bridge the gap between Rapinoe and O’Hara’s generation into the next run of brilliance. Megan Rapinoe and Kelley O’Hara-two of the OGs, two of the faces of the national team, two of the people you’d expect to remain cool under pressure-flubbed their penalty kicks. That all changed on Sunday, during the wee hours of the morning in the United States, when a 0-0 tie gave way to a disastrous penalty kick shootout. A 2015 tie against Sweden-the same team that sent them packing this year-was the last time it failed to win a World Cup game, and the 2011 final against Japan was the most recent loss. Heading into this tournament, the USWNT was undefeated in its last 14 World Cup matches. This is the type of thing that will shake up the entire snowglobe that is US Soccer. Losing in the Round of 16 had never happened before. Losing at all is notable for the US Women’s National team. During their abbreviated stay in Australia and New Zealand, the red, white, and blue struggled to score, never seemed to find the type of cohesion that makes the beautiful game beautiful, and was run by a coaching staff that couldn’t figure out its best lineup configuration. It’s a disorienting thing to type, and a head-spinningly difficult thing to process-but not the least bit shocking, at least for anyone who watched this team in their four World Cup games. The Women’s World Cup keeps rolling along, but the United States is no longer a part of it. Or use the Facebook Comments form at the bottom of the page. I think even doing the motions while learning the tables the regular way would have really helped me as a kid. ![]() I started with pinky pinky 36, pinky index 42, etc. This method could be used to memorize the tables but with a way that includes touch and motion. Then it hit me! To this day I can still sign the entire asl alphabet. I figured if I could do it fast enough, no one would really notice. I spent the whole day practicing this until I could do it fairly quickly. However I wouldn't be comfortable whipping out this method in a business meeting. Kids these days don't really have to hide issues with math, there is almost no stigma now so doing it as written, no big deal. I just wanted to say why this works for me (the gf) and where I have upgraded? modified? it to work at an adult level. In fact, the more comfortable you are with finding more than one way to solve a problem, the stronger your overall understanding is. In mathematics, there can be many ways to solve the same problem, and still be correct in the end, and all are valid. I see the same pattern evident in the finger method for the 9s, at least. 9X3 is 3 instances of something being 1 less than 10, so it's only 1 less than 10 the first 10, then the next 10, it's 1 less again, for a total of two less (18.2 less than 20!) and then for each iteration, take again another "one less than 10" cumulatively (27.3 less than 30). Even if you draw arrays, you see the same pattern that 9 is always one less than 10, so that however many 9s you have, you have that many more ones, fewer. If you closely examine the 9 method on fingers, you will see it does indeed represent something real going on with multiplication of 9s. So what? If a person who could never remember what 6X9 was through more traditional methods, was able to do it with this one, that hurts no one, and helps the person it helps.Īs for it not being an authentic representation of what 6X9 is in terms of arrays, well.that depends. While it may be human nature to universalize our own experiences, it's true that some people really do have extraordinary difficulty with tasks that are simple for most, such as memorizing math facts, and for those, having any hook or peg to hang the thought on, to attach it to something else, whether a mnemonic, or this finger method, can be helpful. Seeing a lot of criticisms back and forth, how these tricks aren't really learning it, how anyone can and should be able to memorize their times tables if they just apply themselves, etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() About Us For more information about Kotaku Australia, visit our about page. It has side characters and content and as a result, if you only do the main missions, it feels shorter than your average CoD and it the story gets wrapped up super quickly. I liked the begginning of the story and it has much more nuanced politics than something like Modern Warfare 2 does and I prefer it's setting over the Modern Warfare games since intergalatic space politics stories to me has the potential to be more deep than the generic wannabe action movies of the Modern Warfare and Black Ops games, and I do really think the game starts off strong with the good guys being arrogant by starting an invasion of the Settlement Defense Front with a 4 man unit instead of invading with an army, and Salen Kotch showing the more character he ever shows throughout the rest of the game and how there is a slow build up towards the war with Sef Def, it kind of feels like a classic space opera sci fi show like Babylon 5, Battlestar Galatica, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Mobile Suit Gundam, but then the actual game starts and while it isn't terrible and the character interactions are decent enough, I don't think the story ever reaches the heights of those opening few hours. The story much like the game itself while good in concept feels half baked. I'll start with the story first then gameplay. I do get some enjoyment out of this game but not without saying to myself, "this could be so much more". I prefer it over Advanced Warfare and Black Ops 3, but the potential still feels only quarter realized. It's actually a somewhat cheap trick, but I cannot deny that it genuinely got to me! I don't know how often I'll revisit this one – definitely not as much as the Modern Warfare games or the first Black Ops, but certainly more than Ghosts or Advanced Warfare, or any Battlefield game for that matter!ħh Played CoD Infinite Warfare is a game I like in concept rather than execution, while it easily plays the best out of the furturistic CoD games, I still feel like the game could be much more. Actually, let's not mince words – I absolutely loved this mid 2/3 of the game, as it involves you choosing which missions to carry out, and each one is specifically designed to weaken the enemy's invading armada, and I've always wanted to see a movie/show, or play a game, that did exactly this! With each victory, you can feel your enemy's hold getting weaker, making this feel more like a proper War entry than any other sci-fi shooter that I can think of! Heck, because the enemy space-battleships are akin to Star Destoyers in Star Wars, these battles are the Star Wars space battles that I always wanted to see, but never got to! Now, the final part of the game does lower the fun a lot, as everything bad that could happen does indeed happen – AGAIN! - but I actually really liked the final moments, as you are forced to see many of the people who stood by you the entire time dying, and the end credits actually lets you listen to the messages they left for their families. However, after that, you go onto a space-battleship, and here is where the game gets good. Not the first mission – that's actually pretty good, but the attack on Earth and the fallout/firefight over the next hour, is really kinda terrible. Now, the game has some SERIOUS missteps, and almost all of them are at the very start I say no hyperbole that the opening part of the game is easily the worst. 8h 32m PlayedI know that a lot of people would strongly disagree with me, as this game is actually the most down-voted Call of Duty game, or at least it was at the time of launch, but this might be my favorite since Modern Warfare 3. |
